Within the ACEE is the Pisgah Forest Institute (PFI), a program that provides workshops in environmental science for K-12 educators. PFI is a cooperative effort between Brevard College, the Cradle of Forestry in America Interpretive Association, and the USDA Forest Service. External support makes it possible to offer these workshops at no charge to participants. Attendees are given training, supplies, and a comprehensive notebook that can be readily used in the classroom. Five-day summer workshops include “Earth and Environmental Science (EES) for Middle/High School Educators,” “EES for Elementary Educators,” and “Forest Ecology.” Three-day workshops are offered during the school year and summer months on diverse topics. For 2008, these three-day workshops will include “Recycling and Composting in the Classroom” and “Forest Invasives.” Distance learning versions of some of these workshops are available. CEUs, EENC certification , and undergraduate credit available
